Dr. Robert Morrissey, Senior Fellow at the Computation Institute, Benjamin Franklin Professor in the Department of Romance Languages and Literature, and Director of the ARTFL Project will discuss Encyclopédie, the app he developed in collaboration with UChicago's Emerging Technologies and Communication team.

The iPad app, available in iTunes, digitizes an 18th century Enlightenment reference work originally compiled in French by Denis Diderot and Jean le Rond d'Alembert.

Encylopédie allows a user to browse the masterpiece by volume, author, and class, and includes rich versions of full plates and original pages.

The app is also a collaboration between the University of Chicago and the Project for American and French Research on the Treasury of the French Language (ARTFL), of which Dr. Morrissey is Director.

Dr. Morrissey will discuss the app development process, his work with ARTFL, and give a demonstration of Encyclopédie and the resources it makes instantly accessible.

We look forward to seeing you there!
